Become a Scooter/DPV Diving Instructor

Expand your resume and diversity by teaching other divers how to make the most of their bottom time and have more fun on their dives, by being able to teach the underwater scooter or diver propulsion vehicle (DPV) diving course. 

In this underwater scooter and DPV course, you will teach the skills and concepts a diver needs to safely plan and conduct dives using scooters or DPVs. You will teach the divers about the special precautions needed for using DPVs, how to maintain buddy contact and how to control their equipment, so they can safely enjoy the new dive experiences DPVs provide.

Upon completion of this program, you will earn the SSI Scooter/DPV Diving Instructor specialty certification and be able to teach divers to use their equipment on dives up to 30 meters/100 feet deep with a scooter or DPV.

Certification Methods:
Seminar:

• Minimum Instructor Rating: An active status Assistant Instructor Trainer, certified as an instructor in the applicable specialty, may conduct the seminar.
• Requirements For Completion: Successfully complete the Specialty Instructor Seminar as outlined in the instructor manual for the Specialty Instructor program.
• Note: No proof of logged dives is required for this method.

Co-Teaching:

• Minimum Instructor Rating: The candidate may co-teach the applicable specialty program with an active status Specialty Instructor who is certified to teach that specialty.
• Requirements For Completion: Successfully co-teach at least one complete specialty program as outlined in the instructor manual for the Specialty Instructor program.
• Have at least ten (10) logged dives in the applicable specialty.
  

Verification Application:

• Minimum Instructor Rating: Assistant Instructors may apply for the applicable specialty program.
• Requirements For Completion: Have at least 20 logged dives in the applicable specialty
• Complete the applicable student materials, including digital learning, review questions and final exam, or provide proof of an equivalent certification.
